Sedro-Woolley Teachers Ratify Contract; School Starts Thursday

Posted: 3:33 pm PDT September 1, 2009Updated: 5:53 pm PDT September 2, 2009

After a one-day strike, teachers in Sedro-Woolley have ratified a new one-year contract and school starts Thursday.

The settlement came hours after teachers began walking strike picket lines Wednesday on what was scheduled to be the first day of school.

Rich Wood of the Washington Education Association said the main issue of negotiations was the school district's attempt to eliminate time before and after school that teachers use to meet with parents and students.

In the new contract, that time has not been cut.

The small northwest Washington district has 253 teachers and 4,414 students.
