Hundreds Of Bogus Checks Written In Fraud Operation

Police said two people are responsible for writing hundreds of bogus checks to purchase merchandise they resold for a profit.

Police said James Russell and Jennifer Ames-Ringle wrote more than 500 fraudulent checks in cities from the Canadian border to Eugene, Ore.

Olympia Lighting Center is one of the businesses that took a fraudulent check from the couple who used it to buy lighting fixtures.

Detectives said items purchased at other companies included lumber, flooring, power tools, concrete and work uniforms, among others.

Russell and Ames-Ringle then sold most of the items on eBay and Craigslist, the Thurston County Sheriff's Department said.

Police said the two also installed in their home a tub and toilet purchased with bogus checks along with a chandelier and other lighting bought from Olympia Lighting Center.

Detectives said the couple was also building a new deck with lumber purchased from fake checks and did construction work under the names Russell Construction and Quality Construction.

Police suspect any materials used for those jobs were bought with bad checks.

On Tuesday, police seized hundreds of items from the couple's home that were allegedly purchased with bad checks.

Anyone who may have done business with the persons involved in the case is asked to call the Centralia Police Department.
