Swastikas Spray-Painted On 2 Seattle Synagogues

Posted: 7:35 am PDT September 14, 2009

Vandals spray-painted swastikas on the doors of two synagogues near Seward Park over the weekend, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported.

Sephardic Bikur Holim Congregation vice president Eli Varon said swastikas were painted Saturday or early on Saturday on that synagogue and on the nearby Congregation Bikur Cholim-Machzihay Hadath.

Varon said swastikas also were painted at seven spots on nearby sidewalks. He said he has cleaned the paint from the building, and Seattle police say city workers are removing it from the public areas that were defaced.

"Our holidays are coming up, and it's sad to see people have so much hate that they would do this to an organization, a community organization," Varon said.

Police are asking anyone with information on the incidents to call the department's Bias Crimes Unit at 206-233-3898.
