Elderly Woman Shoos Away Knife-Wielding Robber

SHELTON, Wash. -- An 83-year-old woman pushed a knife-wielding robber from her home using a chair on Sunday, said Mason County sheriff's deputies who said they later arrested the man after he allegedly robbed an Allyn espresso stand.Deputies said the 20-year-old Allyn man approached the elderly woman at her home on Highway 3 early Sunday afternoon, asking to use the bathroom. When she refused, he confronted her with a knife, demanding guns, jewelry and cash, deputies said.She told the man she didn't have any of that, and she pushed him out of the house with a chair, police said. He left without incident, deputies said.At about 2 p.m., a man armed with a knife robbed Sail On Espresso on Highway 3, fleeing in an Acura with over $200 in cash, deputies said.A witness who saw the robber flee reported the Acura's license number, which investigators traced to a Kitsap County camp site. The suspect was arrested after a brief foot chase, the sheriff's office said.
