A Seattle man charged with the shooting death of a respected music-recording engineer bailed himself out of jail and wrote his family a goodbye letter.

Kino Gomez is charged with the death of 49-year-old Tom Pfaeffle, a respected sound engineer who worked with music groups that included Nirvana, Aerosmith and Heart, according to his Web site.

Pfaeffle was shot through the door of a motel room in Twisp in July after he put his room key into the wrong door at the Blue Spruce Motel, police said.

Gomez told police he was wearing a holster with two Glock handguns while he lay in his motel bed. He told police he shot Pfaeffle because he thought someone was breaking in.

Gomez bailed himself out of jail on a $100,000 bond and was under court-supervision at a Beacon Hill house until his trial.

He failed to appear in Okanogan County court last Thursday and his attorney said Tuesday that Gomez is gone.

On Thursday, KIRO 7 reporter Gary Horcher received a letter Gomez wrote to his family titled “Goodbye.”

In the letter, Gomez starts off with “By the time you read this letter, I will be gone. I have taken a one-way trip to the mountains.”

He writes, “Lose my freedom? Lose my gun rights? I’d rather be dead. Society’s sheep will never comprehend the principle.”

He said the media, bloggers, police and the justice system have already “hung” him and that “Just for spite, I shall deprive society of the circus it so bloody craves -- the bearded lady quit!”

He wrote that he’s carrying two guns and said, “It will be quick and painless. Let no one get in my way -- I will not be very kind.”

Police have issued a warrant for his arrest and are searching for him.
