Salmon fishermen are surprised by what's coming up on their hooks!

Fishermen are catching giant Humboldt squid in the Strait of Juan de Fuca and along the Washington coast.

Loren James sent KIRO pictures of squid he caught near Sekui on Tuesday.

James said he caught three of the squid. They can get up to six feet long and weight about 100 pounds.

Most of the squid live in the eastern Pacific from Chile to California.

But recently, may of the monster-sized squid have migrated as far north as Alaska, possibly because of warming water temperatures.
