MOUNT VERNON, Wash. -- Mount Vernon police said there have been eight residential burglaries throughout the city in the last two weeks.Police said most of the burglaries occurred between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. when residents are not home.In most cases, the burglars entered the home through an open door or window. In a few of the cases, a window was broken or a door was forced open.Police said the homes were ransacked and the interiors were damaged. Electronics, prescription drugs, and money were some of the most common items taken.Mount Vernon police said three or four homes in the Shelter Bay area were also struck with similar robberies. Police are working with Swinomish Tribal Police to determine if the cases were related.Witnesses saw a 1980s Chevrolet Blazer or GMC Jimmy with faded orange and white paint in the area during the time of one of the burglaries.In another incident, a smaller black car, possibly a Ford model with chrome trim, was observed.Anyone with information about the crimes is asked to contact the Mount Vernon Police Department at 360-336-6271.
