A fire ripped through an apartment in Seattle's Queen Anne neighborhood early Wednesday.

The fire started just before 2:30 a.m. in the Fairview Apartments on Queen Anne Avenue North at Ward Street, about halfway up the counterbalance.

Two people inside the burned apartment were treated and released at the scene for smoke inhalation.

A KIRO 7 News crew spoke to a woman who had to leave her apartment because of the fire.

"I looked out my window and saw the flames shooting out. It was totally insane. I go, 'Get up! There really is a fire!' And I grabbed my cats," said Kathy Nelson.

The fire burned one two-bedroom unit on the second floor of the building. Damaged was estimated at $125,000.

Fire investigators said the fire was accidental, caused by improper disposal of smoking materials.

Queen Anne Hill reopened at about 5:30 a.m. after being blocked by fire equipment.
