Search For Missing Pilot Moves South

The search for a pilot who's been missing since he took off from a Snohomish airport Saturday has moved south.

Gordon Last, 51, took off from Harvey Field Airport in his Taylorcraft two-seat airplane but failed to return to that airport.

Air search and rescue teams moved to the Olympia Airport Wednesday to resume the search.

Searchers received tips from witnesses and a radar forensics team that suggest the missing pilot may have landed in Westport, walked into town and then departed to the northeast between 3 and 5 p.m. on Oct. 10.

Searchers are focusing on the area between Shelton and Westport. The search area is about 1,900 square miles covering Grays Harbor County, the southeast corner of Thurston County and a small piece of northwest Lewis County, officials said.

Due to weather, crews were not able to perform as many air searches Wednesday, but family members said they took the time to post flyers in the area.

According to reports, the plane had no emergency locator beacon or transponder on board and no flight plan was filed.

Anyone with information on the aircraft is asked to contact the search staff at missingaircraft@wsdot.wa.gov or 360-410-0461.
