Detectives said media coverage prompted a tip that led to Robert James McCloud in Aberdeen. Police said he is the gunman in the two robberies near Lacey and one in Dupont.

The robberies all happened within 24 hours last week. The first case at a Dupont Chevron where prosecutors said McCloud pulled a shotgun on the clerk so he and his accomplice could clean out the till.

Within hours they moved south near Lacey where another clerk was robbed by the shotgun bandits who were wearing socks on their hands in an apparent attempt to leave no fingerprints behind. The third robbery was at the Evergreen Valley Grocery near Lacey.

Detectives said McCloud is also a registered sex offender and has gang affiliations in the Puyallup area.

The second robber seen in the surveillance video has not yet been identified and McCloud is not revealing his identity, but detectives said it’s only a matter of time before he’s tracked down.
