Small Fire In Shelton's Southside School

A project for an art class ended in a fire at the Southside School in Shelton.

The small fire started when a teacher's aide was melting wax on a hot plate and it caught fire, said Greg Shield of Fire District #4 in Thurston County.

The fire was quickly put the fire out with a rag and a bottle of water.

There were no kids in the class at the time, but the school was evacuated for a short time.

The incident happened at the school on Southeast Collier Road at about 10:20 a.m. Monday.
