BELLEVUE, Wash. -- Bellevue College is embarking on a unique pilot program in the hopes of saving students money for the costs of their college textbooks. The school has received a nearly $300,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Education to start a program allowing student to rent all their textbooks and course materials, KIRO 7 reported.School officials believe that renting books, instead of buying, could produce a net savings of 13 percent of the total expenses students face. The college tested a similar model in 2005 when the school started one of the first textbook-rental programs in the country and was later expanded to other community colleges in Washington state.
