For all the frustration in Washington state about Boeing's decision to build a second 787 production line in South Carolina, there is celebration across the country in Charleston.

KIRO 7's Graham Johnson went to Charleston, where he has been sampling opinions.

Johnson said he took off from Sea-Tac Airport Wednesday night, leaving behind anger and disappointment, but found a lot of excitement in Charleston.

News of the second 787 line coming to Charleston has people at the Sunflower Café thrilled.

"I think it's wonderful. I think it's a great boost for Charleston, for the area," said one cafe customer.

South Carolina has endured high unemployment during the recession. The state heavily courted Boeing, offering startup costs and tax breaks.

In this grand southern city, where the past is treasured, there is real excitement about the future. And people here see personal opportunity in Boeing's decision to expand in Charleston.

"I'm sure glad to hear it because I've got a grandson he'd love to get on with Boeing," said Howard Steinbercher of Charleston.

Keith Fowler would also like a job at Boeing. An electrical contractor, he's been struggling.

"It's very tough to get work now, in this shaky economy," Fowler said. "I'm always looking for options, too, yeah, I'm glad that deal came through for South Carolina and North Charleston people can use those jobs."

Carolyn Hughes hopes anyone who moves here from the Northwest will want to buy a home.

A real estate agent, she's already approached Boeing about traveling to Seattle to host re-location seminars.

"I'm loving it. I'm loving it. I think it's going to be great for our industry," she said.
