Investigators Say Greenwood Fire Arson

SEATTLE -- After completing the investigation into a fire in Greenwood that destroyed four businesses, fire officials said the fire was intentionally set.Seattle Fire Department spokesman Helen Fitzpatrick said the fire started inside the Green Bean Coffeehouse.More than 100 firefighters responded to the fire that erupted on Oct. 23 shortly before 4 a.m. in a commercial building at Northwest 85th Street and Palatine Avenue North.The intense fire quickly escalated to three alarms. More than 12 hours after the fire, firefighters were still putting water on hotspots in the charred remains.A total of four businesses -- Pho Tic Tac, a Vietnamese restaurant, the Green Bean Coffeehouse, the Szechuan Bistro and C.C. Teriyaki -- were destroyed in the fire.The adjacent Taproot Theatre was severely damaged by smoke and water.Fitzpatrick said the damage estimate for contents inside the stores is $2 million.No arrests have been made in the case.
