Driver Leads Police To Swerving SUV, 31 Pounds Of Pot

A driver who reported a swerving SUV followed the vehicle and led police to the discovery of 31 pounds of marijuana Thursday, reported KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.

At 11:31 p.m., police received a report of an erratic driver heading northbound on Interstate 5 near Southcenter Mall in Tukwila.

The reporting driver followed the Ford Excursion until troopers stopped it on Interstate 405 near Kirkland.

Police said after they stopped the SUV for traffic violations, the trooper smelled marijuana and saw indications that the driver was under the influence of the drug.

The 68-year-old California man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of marijuana.

During a search of the SUV, the trooper found 31 pounds of marijuana packaged in 1 gallon Ziplock bags sitting in the back seat, a police news release said.

The trooper also found more than $2,700 rolled up in $20 bills in the man's pants pockets, police said.

The man's vehicle was seized by authorities.

Police said the man could be charged with felony possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.
