Police Warn Fast-Food Workers Of Fake Cop Robbers

Posted: 1:17 pm PST November 3, 2009Updated: 3:17 pm PST November 3, 2009

Police in Pierce County are distributing bulletins to fast-food restaurants, warning employees about two men posing as police officers who have committed a series of kidnappings, robberies and one rape.

Patrol and community liaison officers from the sheriff's department and the Lakewood and Tacoma police departments are distributing the fliers that tell people what to do if they are pulled over by a vehicle with red and blue flashing lights. See the flier

The fliers tell fast-food workers to call 911 and to tell the dispatcher they are being pulled over, to keep going and head to a well-lit area. Anyone pulled over should ask a dispatcher to send a fully marked police car and should only pull over if the dispatcher says it's a police officer.

In four different incidents, restaurant managers have been pulled over by a vehicle with red and blue flashing lights shortly after closing and leaving their restaurant, police said.

In previous incidents, two men wearing bandanas over their faces approached the victim’s vehicle, displayed guns, and then handcuffed the victim. One man drove the victim back to the restaurant and then forced the victim to unlock the doors, opened the safe and gave the robber cash while being held at gunpoint.

It is believed the second robber picked up the first robber at the restaurant after the kidnapping and robbery.

In the most recent incident, two men pulled a woman and a male companion over at 2:20 a.m. Sunday, after following the car from a Wendy's fast-food restaurant in Lakewood that had just closed for the night.

When the woman told the men she could not get them back inside the Wendy's restaurant they intended to rob, they instead drove her to a wooded area and raped her.

The pair is also believed to be responsible for a robbery at a McDonald's in Lakewood on Oct. 1, a Wendy's in Tacoma on Oct. 23 and a Burger King in Graham on Oct 25.

The robbers used vehicles described as a dark, newer SUV and an older black Honda with tinted windows. The vehicles had red and blue lights on their dashboards.

Both men are described as white, 20 to 25 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall, with thin builds.

During the kidnappings and robberies, the men wore dark hooded sweatshirts, dark hats, bandanas, gloves and have been armed with handguns.

CrimeStoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and charges filed for the persons in this case.

Anyone with information about the cases is asked to call 253-591-5959.
