Person Of Interest In Officer's Killing Shot

A man described as a person of interest in the shooting of Officer Tim Brenton was shot by police in Tukwila Friday afternoon, Mike Murphy of the Tukwila Police Department said.

The shooting occurred as Seattle Police detectives pursued a tip at an apartment complex in Tukwila on Friday, Tukwila police spokesman Mike Murphy said.

As police approached the man outside the apartment building, he attempted to flee and then pulled a gun when he was boxed in by police. Murphy said three Seattle police officers opened fire. No officers were injured.

The wounded man was transported to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition. Sources told KIRO reporter Karen O'Leary the man was hit with two gunshots, one in the head, the other in his right side. After hours of surgery, the man was upgraded to serious condition, Harborview Medical Center spokeswoman Susan Gregg-Hanson said.

Murphy said police came to the apartment after receiving a tip that a vehicle similar to that believed to be involved in the Brenton shooting was seen at the apartment complex.

That vehicle was found in the apartment parking lot covered with a tarp, Johnson reported.

Police have searched the man's apartment.

Two other men described as material witnesses are in custody.

A neighbor of the person of interest, Jeffrey Moses, described the man as a "loner type."
