SEATTLE -- A son of Lt. Gov. Brad Owen was one of two people shot in what police said was an attempted murder-suicide at a business in Kent Monday afternoon, reported KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.

The victim is Owen's oldest son, Mark.

Kent police told KIRO the manager of Kent Body and Paint shot Owen and then turned the gun on himself.

Lt. Gov. Owen told KIRO 7 reporter Monique Ming Laven that the manager, Carlos Fernandez, was one of his oldest friends.

Brad Owen said 37-year-old Mark was employed by the business for several years and recently became partners with Fernandez.

Police said the shop's manager got into a dispute with Owen and shot him in the stomach and wrist.

The manager then went out in front of other employees and shot himself in the mouth, police said.

Both victims were taken to Harborview.

Hospital spokesman Susan Gregg-Hanson said Owen is in stable condition and would be going into surgery.

Police said the manager suffered life-threatening injuries.

The lieutenant governor has three sons and three daughters.

Kent Body and Paint, in the 800 block of Fifth Avenue South, is a firm that paints semitrailers.
