Police are looking for a hit-and-run driver whose car struck and severely injured a worker for a landscaping business as he was on a job in Bellevue Wednesday.

Police said the man was getting out of his truck in the 1700 block of 112th Avenue Northeast when he was hit by a northbound driver and launched at least 25 feet, leaving his clothing, tools and jacket scattered on the road.

Horcher said the man, a 46-year-old with children, suffered injuries that include a shattered pelvis, broken legs and severe facial wounds.

The hit-and-run driver's car would have sustained severe front-end damage including a concave windshield, police told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Gary Horcher.

Police said the driver never stopped, and only one person nearby got a glimpse of the car as it sped away.

"It's possible that it's a newer-model compact, either blue or gray, and it would have extensive damage to the passenger front area and the windshield," said Carla Lafrate with Bellevue police.

The other members of the victim's crew did not see the incident. A passing driver saw the landscape contractor lying in the road and called police at 2:15 p.m.

Bellevue detectives scoured the pavement for broken car parts, skid marks or any clue that could lead them to the hit-and-run driver.

Anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident is asked to call police.
