PUYALLUP, Wash. -- Puyallup police said a dye pack exploded in the pocket of a robber fleeing a Key Bank Thursday morning.

Police said the man entered the bank at 3903 S. Meridian Street, handed a robbery note to the teller, implied that he had a weapon and demanded cash.

As the man fled with the money, a bank dye pack activated inside the pocket of his green coat.

The man and/or his coat are expected to be stained with red dye from the pack, police said.

Responding police officers set up a perimeter for a K-9 unit search but the robber was not found.

The robber is described as a white man in his mid-thirties, about 6 feet 1 inch tall with a thin build. He was wearing a dark-colored baseball cap, a green military-style jacket and blue jeans. His hair was described as sandy colored. He was unshaven and had pale skin.

Investigators ask anyone who saw a man fitting the description in the area Thursday to call the Puyallup Police Department.
