Sedro-Woolley Man Dies While Chopping Down Tree

Posted: 5:11 pm PST November 19, 2009

A 24-year-old Sedro-Woolley man died Thursday when a tree he was chopping down fell on him, said Rebecca Hover of the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident was reported about 1:40 p.m. in the 7500 block of Silvana Terrace Road in unincorporated Stanwood.

The man, reportedly employed as a private contractor with a logging and tree service company, was doing storm cleanup work in a heavily wooded area on private property.

He was using a chainsaw to bring down an unstable tree that had fallen and was partially suspended by the branches of nearby trees when a large section of that tree fell on him, Hover said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. Another man working with him was not injured.

Deputies determined the incident was an accident.
