Woman Calls 911 To Report Herself As Drunk Driver

A 19-year-old Auburn woman called 911 to report herself as “very drunk” while stopped on the shoulder of a road, said Washington State Patrol Trooper Dan McDonald.

Alysha McInnis was stopped on the shoulder of southbound state Route 167 when she called 911 just after 5 a.m. Monday morning.

McInnis told the dispatcher that she was underage and very drunk. She said she was given alcohol at a party without her knowledge and her friends told her that she could call 911 to have the police come pick her up and take her to the hospital to detox, McDonald said.

She told the dispatcher that she pulled to the shoulder because she was intoxicated and began to lose her vision.

When a trooper arrived at the scene, McInnis had had bloodshot and watery eyes, slurred speech, and appeared extremely intoxicated, McDonald said.

A 20 ounce alcohol energy drink in the cup holder contained 12 percent alcohol. McInnis told the trooper that she was drinking the alcohol drink while driving and that she had drank four of the same drinks at the party she was driving home from.

The trooper said the symptoms McInnis was experiencing were a result of the amount of alcohol she had drank both at the party and on her way home.

McInnis was transported to Auburn Regional Medical Center where she was released for detox treatment. McDonald said she was never arrested.

WSP said McInnis did the right thing by pulling over when she began to lose her vision, but it has a zero tolerance for driving under the influence and highly encourages the use of designated drivers.
