Woman Stabbed In Random North Seattle Attack

Police are looking for a man who stabbed a woman in what they called a random, unprovoked attack in North Seattle on Sunday night.

The 26-year-old woman said she left her job at Dick's Drive-in and was walking in the 9000 block of Holman Road at about 7 p.m. She noticed a man following her, slowed to let him pass and then walked by him when he stopped in front of her, police said.

"He grabbed her from behind. He grabbed her in the neck and throat area and stabbed … with an unknown object in her lower back area," said Detective Renee Witt of the Seattle Police Department.

The woman struggled, screamed, fell into the street. She was taken to the hospital with injuries police said were not life-threatening. A co-worker said she will be OK.

A K-9 tried to track the attacker but could not find him.

Police recovered a small pocket knife with a broken blade from the ground near the victim.

Neighbors saw police and firefighters rushing to the scene, but many didn't know what happened until reporters told them about the stabbing on Monday.

"It's really scary. I mean, I can't just walk around by myself at night, I guess, because there's psychos out there," said Marta Vandagriff.

Police are looking for a white man about 5 feet 11 inches tall, heavy set, in his mid- to late-30s with short brown hair. He was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt or jacket and dark pants.
