Hogan's Blog: Friday Traffic and Weekend Look Ahead

Happy Friday! Grab your toys and come visit us today! It's our annual Toys for Tots drive today so come stop by KIRO on 3rd and Broad to say hi, we can't wait to meet you. As usual be careful on roads this morning, the weather is still colder than normal which means possible frost or ice. Also some construction this weekend, so plan accordingly if you're doing any Holiday traveling.

Here are the things that may have slowed you down Friday morning:

Tacoma: Accident is blocking the HOV lane on the EB SR 16 Tacoma Narrows Bridge. TIME: 6:43 a.m.

Seattle: SR 520 westbound disabled vehicle partially blocking off-ramp to I-5 North, TIME: 6:26 a.m. UPDATE: Now cleared into the shoulder, blocking the right lane I-5 as you approach the ship canal bridge. TIME: 6:37 a.m.

Seattle: SR 9 Northbound - Construction in the right turn lane on SB at 233rd Pl SE will continue until 4 p.m. tomorrow.

Renton/Tukwila: I-405 construction wrapped up this morning for the last time. Commuters will find an extra lane to use on their drive. We'll be watching to see how it affects your drive time and if you can leave your house later. KIRO's Chris Francis will be talking with WSDOT during our newscast.

Seattle: SDOT crews will close a lane on NW 80th Street between 3rd Avenue NW and 8th Avenue NW from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to allow a contractor to perform pavement maintenance work. Flaggers will direct traffic through one lane.

Overnight Construction:

I-5 Northbound: The right lane of NB I-5 from Mid Boeing Field to I-90 northbound will be closed until 5:00 a.m. Dec. 11 for construction.

I-5 Northbound: Crews will close up to three lanes of NB I-5 from Northeast 50th Street to Northeast 145th Street on Friday night to replace traffic detection loops and stripe the lanes.

Weekend Construction:

Tacoma: State Route 509 closes between downtown Tacoma and Port of Tacoma Road from 3 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009. The closure allows construction crews to set seven new bridge girders using two massive cranes. Via WSDOT

Seattle: Construction crews will close all lanes of northbound I-5 at the Boeing Access Road to install sign bridges over the freeway. Saturday, Dec. 12 - All lanes will be closed from 11:30 p.m. to 8 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 13 the following ramps to northbound I-5 will also be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.: Boeing Access Road/Martin Luther King Jr Way, Swift/Graham, Corson/Michigan, West Seattle Freeway /Columbian Way.

Redmond: all lanes in both directions of SR 520 will be closed through the weekend to install girders for a new bridge at 36th Street. E astbound closure: Friday, Dec. 11 - the morning of Saturday, Dec. 12 - from 11:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. Westbound lane closure Saturday, Dec. 12 - the morning of Sunday, Dec. 13 - closed from 11:59 p.m. to 8 a.m.
