Deadline Set For Death Penalty Decision In Monfort Case

A judge said King County prosecutors will have until June 15 to decide whether they will seek the death penalty against a man accused of murdering a Seattle police officer.

Christopher Monfort, who was paralyzed by a police bullet during his capture, was wheeled into court for his Tuesday morning hearing.

The defendant's lawyers tried to block Monfort from cameras while in the courtroom.

His attorneys lobbied to get more time to prepare their case against execution.

The judge did not grant the defense more time. Monfort's lawyers can provide prosecutors with information to review up until the deadline.

Monfort is charged with killing Seattle Police officer Timothy Brenton and wounding his partner on Halloween night.
