CENTRALIA, Wash. -- Authorities removed seven children from a Centralia home filled with rotting garbage, swarming flies and broken glass, police told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.

The children -- ranging in age from 10 months to 12 years -- are being placed in foster care, and their mother will likely be charged with second-degree criminal mistreatment.

Photos shot by Centralia police showed rotting food and piles of dirty clothes strewn about the house.

"This was extremely dangerous. This was a household where there was no consideration for the safety of toddlers," said Chris Fitzgerald of the Centralia Police Department.

Police found the children after their 30-year-old mother called 911 to report a problem that she was too intoxicated to explain to dispatchers, police said.

Officers who responded to the home discovered the children, some of whose diapers hadn't been changed in days, police said. They called Child Protective Services to remove the children.

Police said shards of glass from a broken coffee table lay on the floor, and they found open containers of rubbing alcohol right next to the small children's beds.

Friends of the mother said she has been on a downward spiral and her seven kids are paying the price.

"A month ago she was doing good, then she just kind of went on a rampage," said neighbor Jared Penfield.

The mother, Kristy Price, told KIRO 7 reporter Richard Thompson that the mess was no big deal and she wants her kids back.

"I love my kids with all my heart," Price said. "It looked really hideous, but if the officers would have given me 20 minutes, it would have been gone and I told them that."
