PUYALLUP, Wash. -- A deputy opened fire on a suspected car thief Wednesday morning along 116th Street East in the South Hill neighborhood of Puyallup, according to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department.Investigators said two deputies tried pulling over a stolen truck around 3:30 a.m.The truck took off and a brief chase ensued, police said.Pierce County Sheriff's spokesman Jerry Bates said the truck hit a stump along a driveway on 116th Street East.Bates said deputies then ordered the man out of the truck."The driver did not follow their commands put the car into reverse and struck the deputy's patrol car knocked the passenger deputy down. Then the driving deputy fired one shot at the suspect vehicle's vehicle and struck the suspect," said Bates.Bates said the suspect then drove forward about 75 feet and got out of the car and ran.KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Rick Price said a police dog caught the suspect near 120th Avenue Southeast and 116th Street East.He was taken away in an ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.Neither deputy was hurt.
