Bullet Goes Through Window, Wall In PLU College Dorm

Police are looking for the culprits in a Parkland shooting that sent a bullet through the window and a wall of a dormitory at Pacific Lutheran University Wednesday night.

The shooting occurred shortly before 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of 121st Street South and Pacific Avenue.

"We found a bullet in my closet that had actually penetrated the wall," said PLU student Hans Nelson, who lives in the dorm.

Nelson is a junior at the school and lives with three roommates in a campus apartment in South Hall. He's thankful he was at the gym and his roommates weren't home.

"It went right through our window. That's where the dishes are and it could have very easily hit one of us. We're thankful and blessed it didn't," said Nelson.

The shooting took place at a house about four blocks away from the dorm. Pierce County sheriff's detectives investigated the shooting, using flashlights outside looking for other bullets and dusting for fingerprints.

"Bullets travel long distances. It's understandable if there's nothing in its way to stop it, it will go that far," said Nelson.

The Pierce County Sheriff's Office is still investigating the shooting.

At PLU students can sign up to get text messages about safety issues. The school also sends out e-mails, one of which was sent to every student about Wednesday's shooting.
