FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- A four-year veteran of the Federal Way Police Department was found dead in his patrol car at the scene of an officer-involved shooting early Sunday, reported KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.Responding officers initiated CPR, but were unable to revive him.The deceased officer was found after other officers responded to a call at 1:15 a.m. about a suspicious vehicle located in the 33300 block of 26th Avenue Southwest in Federal Way in which two people were reported to be seen sleeping in the back, police said. The SUV was backed up against a vacant home.When police arrived, they discovered the Lincoln Navigator had been reported stolen, and ordered the man and woman inside to come out, authorities said. Police said the man jumped into the driver's seat, started the SUV's engine, and while fleeing the scene, rammed three Federal Way police vehicles.Two officers fired at the driver as he fled. The SUV was later found nearby and the alleged driver, who suffered a gunshot wound to the arm, was found hiding in the carport of a home. Police said the suspect is a 17-year-old man with a long criminal history. He was transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.Police said the woman who was in the SUV remains at large.While the shooting was being investigated, Federal Way police set up a perimeter around the crime scene. At about 6:45 a.m., one of the officers blocking an intersection was found collapsed and unresponsive in his patrol car.Medics were unable to revive the officer and he was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.Police said the initial investigation into the officer’s death indicated there was no foul play.The officer, whose name has not been released, was 34 years old and a 4-1/2 year veteran of the Federal Way Police Department with four prior years of police experience. He was a member of the Air National Guard before becoming a police officer and is survived by his wife, two children, and another child expected later this spring.The two Federal Way police officers who fired at the driver were not hurt. They have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation.
