Firefighters continued Tuesday to spray water down a steep hillside toward a brush fire burning below a string of cliff-top homes.

Streams of water were directed down from the top of a bluff in the Brown's Point area, although the flames were too far down the hill for the water to reach them.

Crews were wetting down vegetation above the fire, which covered about 20 acres.

No homes were believed in danger and firefighters were confident they could stop the blaze as it crept uphill, Fire Department spokesman Kevin O'Donnal said.

The fire broke out Monday evening. It was contained within a few hours, but a dispatcher told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News the blaze would likely continue burning and smoldering until Wednesday, at least.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
