2 Women Assaulted During Home Invasion In South Seattle

Police are looking for a burglary suspect who assaulted two women in South Seattle, said Mark Jamieson of the Seattle Police Department.

The incident happened shortly before 10 a.m. Friday when an 81-year-old woman spotted a man in her home the 7200 block of South Ryan Street.

He attacked her before fleeing, Jamieson said.

“I heard her screaming. I was watering my flowers,” said the homeowner's 71-year-old neighbor.

The neighbor said she ran to the victim’s house and ended up being hurt too.

"I have a black eye. He punched me in the in the face as he was going out the door and I was kicking him," she said.

The neighbor said her 75-year-old husband got involved and grabbed the burglar, trying to hold him.

"He got out of my grasp, that's all i can say. I tried to keep him and subdue him. Got his jacket for DNA evidence so I think the police have a good step on it," the neighbor’s husband said.

The homeowner was transported to Harborview Medical Center and underwent surgery Friday afternoon. Her injuries are not life-threatening and she is expected to recover, police said.

Seattle police spent hours processing the crime scene and removing evidence. They also searched the neighborhood, but did not find the man.

The burglar is described as a man in his late teens, early 20s, with a light-brown complexion, thin, 5 feet 10 inches tall to 6 feet 1 inch tall. He was wearing a NY Yankees baseball cap with dark hair protruding from the back of it, blue jeans and he was clean shaven.

Anyone with information about the burglar should contact the Seattle Police Department.
