SEATTLE -- Seattle fire officials are blaming Christmas tree lights and an overheated extension cord for a massive fire on Capitol Hill Monday. The inferno destroyed a 100-year-old home in an upscale neighborhood.
The fire was reported at 6:48 a.m. near Volunteer Park, and video from Chopper 7 minutes later showed flames soaring into the air.Two people escaped safely and a dog missing after the fire was later found. The fire was too advanced for firefighters to enter the 2-story building so they poured on water from the outside to keep the flames from spreading.Firefighters said the fire apparently started on the first floor and burned through the attic.
Neighbors said the older house had been recently restored.
