Theft Victim Getting New Wheelchair

Posted: 10:33 am PST February 26, 2004

A new electric wheelchair is on its way to Ernestine DeLaCruz.

After a KIRO 7 Eyewitness News story Tuesday about the theft of her chair from just outside her front door, our newsroom phones rang off the hook.

Many viewers want to help the now housebound multiple sclerosis patient.

"I didn't think it would be that quick, that people would call or respond to it," DeLaCruz said.

One of those calls came from "Scooters America," a company that says it will donate a brand new power chair to DeLaCruz Thursday.
