Opponents And Proponents Of Gay Marriage Rally Saturday In Seattle

Posted: 8:12 am PDT May 1, 2004

Opponents of gay marriage, including members of

hundreds of conservative Christian churches, plan to gather Saturday

at Safeco Field in Seattle for a "May Day for Marriage" rally.

Ken Hutcherson, pastor of Antioch Bible Church of Redmond, says it

will be a complete worship service.

In his words, "It's

definitely a God thing." Organizers hope to attract 35-thousand

people to the noontime rally to hear speeches by religious leaders,

including James Dobson, founder of the evangelical Christian group,

Focus on the Family.

Gay-rights activists also plan to attend --

but outside the stadium, staging a sidewalk protest of the event.

The rally, which is free, will be held from noon to 2 p-m. Gates to

Safeco Frield open at 10 a-m.
