POSTED: 7:40 a.m. PDT July 18, 2004
MOUNT VERNON -- A college student convicted of trying to
kidnap his sister will be allowed to attend classes while he's
serving jail time.
22-year-old Khalil Nassar, of Moses Lake, was
sentenced to 10 months for trying to kidnap his 18-year-old sister
from her Sedro-Woolley home as punishment for marrying outside her
Muslim faith.
Skagit County Superior Court Judge Susan Cook on
Friday said Nassar could apply for classes that would require him
to leave the jail. He also can serve his sentence at Kittitas
County Jail in Ellensburg, where he has been attending summer
school.
