SEATTLE -- The Seattle Fire Department has ruled that two three-alarm fires that destroyed buildings under construction in late July are cases of arson.
Lab tests eliminated any accidental cause for a fire that caused $5 million in damage to a condominium complex under construction on Phinney Avenue North July 31, fire officials said.The results of tests at the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms lab in Maryland show the fire was set in the center of the building's fourth floor, the fire department said.
Fire department officials said a fire that burned townhouses under construction in Wallingford on July 25 was also arson. The fire caused $2.8 million in damage to the townhouses.Fire department arson investigators continue to work with local ATF agents in a series of 14 fires in north Seattle in the past two months.
The Arson Alarm Foundation, Pemco and ATF are offering a reward of up to $38,000 for information leading to an arson conviction. The Arson Alarm Hotline number is 1-800-55-ARSON.
