Nearly 1,100 members of the Fort Lewis-based Stryker Brigade began returning home Friday morning in ceremonies at the Army base.

A series of welcoming ceremonies for four groups of Stryker soldiers were held Friday for families to greet soldiers who have been in Iraq for a year.

About 300 members of the Stryker brigade returned to Fort Lewis last Monday.

The Stryker brigade is in the process of being replaced by about 4,000 other soldiers from Fort Lewis.

Meanwhile, a departure ceremony was held Friday for members of a medical brigade. It will leave in Nov. for its second deployment in Iraq.
