Play With Cigarette Lighter Led To Boys' Deaths
Investigators Find Cause For Mountlake Terrace Fire

MOUNTLAKE TERRACE, Wash. -- Fire investigators have found the cause of a fire that killed two boys in a Mountlake Terrace apartment Monday.
KIRO TV News Reporter Gary Horcher reported Wednesday that the boys were playing with a cigarette lighter and accidentally set their home on fire. The children are identified as Futi and Teboay Alopepe.Firefighters said the fire started in a bedroom at the apartment. The boys -- ages 4 and 6 -- were trapped in a ground-floor unit of the Village Square Apartments and were found in a walk-in closet.

Their father was injured when he tried to re-enter the apartment to rescue them.
People in the community are grieving along with family members, and are doing what they can to help ease the family's pain, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported.The boys' mother and sister-in-law both work at a Grocery Outlet in Lynnwood, where coworkers set up a memorial fund to help cover some of the funeral expenses. Employees are covering some of the shifts while the two women are away."We're all really upset because we are a family (company) owned by family, and when family hurts, everybody hurts," said Larry Brown of the Grocery Outlet store.The Lynnwood Grocery Outlet is accepting clothing, toys, and other necessities at its location, 19800 44th Avenue West in Lynnwood.Monetary donations can be made at any Bank of America branch to the "Talaga Memorial Fund."
