A 68-year-old woman was killed on state Route 97 in Okanogan County near Omak Tuesday when a "pin" from a piece of heavy equipment apparently fell off a truck and smashed through the windshield of the car.

The pin hit the victim, who was driving, killing her instantly, causing her car to swerve into the other lane and striking a trailer of a second vehicle.

The passenger in the car with her and the driver of the second vehicle were not injured. The State Patrol is still investigating.
