Wrecked Monorail Trains Towed 5 Blocks

SEATTLE -- The two damaged Seattle monorail trains were supposed to be towed back to the Seattle Center station Tuesday night, but they only made it about five blocks.

Officials hope to finish moving the trains Wednesday night.A shuttle bus will run between the Seattle Center and the downtown Westlake Center while the monorail is out of service.The shuttle service, which costs 25 cents a ride, will run Saturday and Sunday the next two weekends, and then go to seven-day-a-week service during the holiday period from Dec. 17 to Dec. 31. Monorail officials say the shuttle buses will run about every 10 minutes between the Experience Music Project Turnaround at Fifth Avenue and Harrison Street, and the downtown stop at Fifth Avenue and Pine Street, just below the Westlake Center monorail station. Hours will be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., but will be extended to 10 p.m. on days when Sonics and college basketball games are played at Seattle Center, Dec. 10, 17, 22, 23, and 26. On New Year's Eve, service will continue through 1 a.m.
