Sounder, Amtrak Rail Service Resumes

Posted: 2:25 pm PST January 13, 2006Updated: 2:26 pm PST January 13, 2006

Amtrak and Sounder Commuter rail service resumes Friday afternoon on tracks between Seattle and Everett, a railroad spokesman said.

Spokesman Gus Melonas of Burlington Northern Santa Fe said because there have been no more mudslides in the past 48 hours, passenger service can resume.

A slide early Tuesday halted Amtrak passenger rail service between Vancouver, British Columbia, and Portland, Ore., and Sounder commuter trains between Seattle and Everett.

Freight trains were not affected, nor were Sounder commuter trains that run south from Seattle to Tacoma.
