Local Gynecologist Sentenced To 20 Years

A local gynecologist was sentenced to 20 years in prison Monday after being found guilty last November of two counts each of rape and indecent liberties with patients, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported.

Prior to his sentencing, one of Charles Momah’s former patients said, “Mr. Momah isn’t a doctor; he’s a rapist, a pervert, a fraud, a liar, a butcher and a drug pusher.”

“Someone should make an example out of him to let doctors know that they won’t get away with this,” said another former patient.

Friends and family of Momah begged for leniency and said he was a good and decent man.

The 20-year sentence the man received is the midpoint of the standard sentencing range for his most serious of the crimes, rape in the second degree, KIRO-TV reported.

Following Momah’s sentencing a former patient said, “With as many victims as there were, and how much pain he caused, I don’t think there’s a sentence long enough, but I am pleased with the sentence he received and his conviction.”

Momah had offices in Burien and Federal Way until his license was suspended by the state.

King County prosecutors said Momah performed gynecological exams without wearing gloves, sexually touched patients, probed them unnecessarily with a vaginal ultrasound wand, flirted with patients inappropriately, prescribed addictive painkillers for no good medical reason, pressured patients into surgeries and double-billed insurance companies for procedures.
