Seattle police are trying to figure out why a motorcycle with two on board crashed into a parked sport utility vehicle at 8th Avenue Northwest and Northwest 90th Street.

A woman on her way home from work spotted the wreck just after 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.

She called 911 and went to help the driver of the bike, who was trying to save his passenger who had flown off the back of the bike.

"His (the passenger's) head was under the back tire about 40 feet away from the bike at least. His boot was off in the middle of the street. It wasn't very pretty," said Ella Ross, a witness.

Police said the driver hit the back of a Ford Explorer and the passenger was ejected from the bike. The motorcycle driver was not hurt.

Medics arrived quickly and rushed the passenger to Seattle's Harborview Medical Center.

Witnesses said he appeared to have a broken neck. Emergency workers described his condition as serious.
