Store Clerk Fights Off Robber

BELLEVUE, Wash. -- Bellevue police are looking for the unlucky crook who tried to rob a convenience store clerk.Police said the masked man walked into a Chevron station in the 1600 block of Bellevue Way Southeast just after midnight.He doused the clerk with pepper spray. The clerk then grabbed a fire extinquisher and sprayed the attacker. The clerk next picked up a baseball bat and started swinging."There was actually a citizen that came to get gas and he saw the struggle going on in front of the store and he called 911," said Lt. Lisa Patricelli with Bellevue police.By the time officers arrived, the suspect had run away. Police dogs were brought in but they were unable to track a scent.Investigators have very little information about the attacker. He was wearing a ski mask and sunglasses. Police said he didn't get away with any money.The clerk's eyes were washed out with water and he answered questions from police.He didn't want to be interviewed, but police said he should be OK.
