Group Helps Kids Get Health Insurance

Posted: 5:17 pm PDT August 9, 2006Updated: 5:20 pm PDT August 9, 2006

Since the low-cost or free health insurance programs passed Congress in 1997, the number of uninsured kids in Washington state is down by about 7,000.

But one group says there is still work to do.

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is enrolling children in public insurance programs across the country.

"In Washington, programs like Healthy Kids Now have covered thousands of kids since the program began, but there are still more than 120,000 uninsured kids in the state. Most of them are probably eligible for the program, but their parents just don't realize it," said Elaine Arkin of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

To find out if your kids qualify for these state programs call 1-877-KIDS NOW.
