Many of the people affected are shipyard and other workers from the Northwest.

According to court documents, the company continued to market its products even though it knew they were hazardous.

Chris Anderson, who suffers from asbestiosis, said the settlement is a start, but it’s not enough.

“I can’t keep up with my grandchildren. I’m probably not going to see them marry. Pneumonia will probably take me out,” said Anderson.

The disease has caused a scarring of his lungs.

Up to 2,000 people in Washington state may have suffered from asbestos-related cancer or other ailments.

They’ll each receive $147,000, and some will have the opportunity to claim almost $500,000 in additional payments.
