WOODINVILLE, Wash. —
An idea to build a zip line at a King County park is being met with some resistance by neighbors who are concerned about noise.
King County's Gold Creek Park sits on the west side of Woodinville's Hollywood Hill.
“We moved out here for the peace and quiet, you know? It’s nice to get outside the concrete jungle, and this is why we chose Woodinville,” said neighbor Kevin Warrick.
Warrick, who lives with his family in the neighborhood, said what’s proposed across the street is unsettling.
Gravityworks, LL, which started up last fall, is proposing 12 zip lines in the park, running 100 to 500 feet long and 20 to 100 feet off the ground.
Gravityworks' Scott Andrews said the zip lines would have a low impact on the environment and the company would give King County 10 percent of its revenue for rights to use the park.
Neighbor Bob Kaplan said he appreciates the county's budget problems but worries about the noise zip lines would create.
“Are they going to start putting in Ferris wheels, or maybe those rocket things that go around? I mean, this is just so contrary to the lifestyle here,” said Kaplan, who moved to Woodinville from Florida.
The county has asked Gravityworks for more information on the proposal such as potential impacts to the community. Once they hear back, the county will have a public meeting in early June.
The program manager with King County Parks said Gravityworks estimates it would have 40,000 customers a year, netting the county $160,000 every year to be used for county parks.
