KIRO-TV Employment Opportunities



NEWS PRODUCER

KIRO-TV has an opening for a creative, dynamic producer to join our news staff. This person must be able to take charge of a newscast, make strong news decisions and be able to coordinate many live shots and handle breaking news like a pro.  This producer must be flexible and be able to write strong copy for TV and the web if necessary, coordinate with reporters and produce a newscast that is showcased. Qualified applicant should have a degree in broadcasting or related field and experience producing local television news. 


ASSIGNMENT EDITOR – OVERNIGHT – Part-time

This individual is responsible for assignment desk news coverage on a variety of shifts, including weekends and overnights, and especially breaking news. The Assignment Editor will be a dynamic and energetic person who can help manage the news gathering process from the Assignment Desk. The person should break news stories, develop sources and communicate clearly. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: monitoring scanners, answering newsroom phones, making calls to people involved in news stories, dispatching field crews, and assisting other newsroom staff. The assignment editor is required to write and post breaking news stories to the newsroom website, KIROTV.COM. The assignment editor must work well with other managers in achieving newsroom goals. Qualified applicants must demonstrate leadership. Other requirements include the ability to multi-task, strong computer skills, good news judgment, and ability to clearly communicate. Experience on major market assignment desk and some college is preferred. Knowledge of the Puget Sound region’s geography, politics and history is a definite plus.

CLIENT SERVICES MANAGER (Creative Services Department)

 KIRO 7, The Cox Media Group owned CBS affiliate in Seattle, is looking for a Client Services Manager with the creative talent to produce top notch commercials for KIRO7 clients. We’re seeking a marketing and production pro who knows how to turn heads and boost sales for clients through on-air and online advertising!

Qualifications

BA in Production, Marketing or Broadcast related field.  Excellent communication, organization, and writing skills are required.  The successful candidate will have a minimum 3 years of experience working in commercial production at a television station. Must be a hands-on writer/producer, extremely creative shooter, editor, and writer. Must have experience in graphic design, as it relates to producing compelling/eye-catching commercials maximizing graphic elements in the production. Knowledge of After Affects, Photoshop, Cinema 4D, and Illustrator preferred. Must be able to show writing, producing and design experience in all media platforms. Previous supervisory experience in directing workflow, motivating and training staff preferred.

Responsibilities

General:

  • Leads and directs all commercial production responsibilities within the creative services department.
  • Plan, schedule, and execute all commercial production requests from beginning to end.
  • Works closely with clients from conceptualizing to execution based on client needs and available resources/budget.
  • Supervises producers in the execution of commercial production.
  • Maintains a friendly, cooperative relationship with sales department and clients.
  • Specific:

  • Supervises commercial producers, works closely with the sales department, including managers, AE’s, and clients to ensure all commercial production needs for the station are serviced.
  • Prioritizes and delegates projects based on potential revenue.
  • Works closely with AE’s and clients to conceptualize and execute advertising campaigns that benefit client while not exceeding budget.
  • Ensures that assignments and projects are on schedule and meeting deadlines.
  • Write and produce on-air commercials, from billboards to full length sales initiated programming.
  • Plans and executes various web and social media initiatives for various sponsored cooperatives.
  • Liaison with sales department, clients, ad, and marketing agencies to ensure content is produced and airs correctly.
  • Works closely with the Director of Public Affairs & Special Projects in the production of KIRO 7 community initiatives with sponsorship ties.
  • Ensures advertiser-related promotion is executed properly per sales packages including production timelines, deadlines for content and logos and execution of on-air commitments.
  • To support the KIRO 7 mission and values statements and to represent KIRO 7 in a highly professional manner.
  • Essential Physical Functions

    While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crawl or crouch. The employee is frequently required to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee often works in outside weather conditions, and periodically works near moving mechanical parts. Special vision abilities required for this job include close and peripheral vision, depth perception, color, and precise vision.

This leader will help develop creative and scalable solutions that leverage and maintain our media portfolio. Have a solutions-oriented attitude and passion to win. Be an expert problem solver. Be able to understand relationships and communicate internally and externally across the organization. Be skilled at creating & delivering presentations in front of large groups and one-on-one with key decision-makers. Candidate must be able to adapt to new technology, handle campaign reporting, exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills, be an organized planner and be goal-oriented. This position is responsible for developing new advertisers and increasing share of business for existing advertisers. Knowledge of agency structure and ratings negotiation is a plus. Prove to us your track record of success in marketing, sales and entrepreneurship. Candidates must be computer proficient - Excel, PowerPoint, as well as the Internet. Experience with OSI, Matrix, TVB, AdMall and OneDomain are preferred. College degree with minimum two years related experience preferably in media sales or related business.
