PROMOTION MANAGER

KIRO-TV is looking for a Promotion Manager that has the tireless drive, ambition and talent and to win, and won’t settle for anything less! We need someone that knows their way around a great image spot, can choose golden words for investigative promos, reads and interprets research to sell spot-on image promotion, AND, under the leadership of the Creative Services Director, run the day-to-day operation of a motivated department.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Manages the execution of daily strategic plans under the direction of the Creative Services Director.
• Executes log strategy and maintains log inventory for the department. Oversee execution of log placement.
• Supervises the Senior Producer and Topical Producers in the execution of the daily topical process and production
• Based on research, produces strategic sweeps, image, daily topical promotion and other station promotion.
• Oversees Client Services in the organization and production of commercials for clients.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Ensures that day to day assignments and projects are on schedule and meeting deadlines per strategic plans.  Approves daily copy and spots for air as needed.
• Develops and maintains daily, weekly and monthly calendars for department staff, outlining assignments, deadlines for on-air, radio and web marketing under the direction of Creative Services Director.
• Maintains order and library structure for daily, weekly and monthly inventory.
• Acts as liaison between news and marketing for topicals and sweeps content to ensure daily results are achieved.
• Write and produce on-air promotion, including topical, investigative and image promotion.
• Writes and produces marketing for radio and cable during sweeps.
• Plans and executes the web and social media plan for selling the KIRO brand in and out of sweeps.
• Works closely with traffic department to maintain all promo contract orders, and manages daily execution of promo inventory on the log.
• Liaison with radio stations on media buys, works with partners to ensure the correct KIRO7 marketing gets produced, and is running on their stations accurately.
• Works closely with the Director of Public Affairs & Special Projects to allocate staff resources in the production of KIRO 7 community initiatives.
• Liaison for CBS and syndicators in the execution of their promotion on KIRO7. Ensures that station executes contracted requirements. Maximizes and maintains strong relationships.
• Liaison between Marketing and Sales to ensure that advertiser-related promotion is executed properly per sales packages including production timelines, deadlines for content and logos and execution of on-air commitments.
• To support the KIRO 7 mission and values statements and to represent KIRO 7 in a highly professional manner.

NEWS ANCHOR

KIRO-TV is looking for an experienced anchor for its morning newscasts.  An anchor at this station must be able to drive the KIRO-TV brand from the news desk. The job also requires excellent reporting talents including researching and writing stories.  Candidates must have strong on-air presentation skills, communication skills, and live reporting skills.  Must be a good story teller.  Must be strong in covering and presenting breaking news.  Must have a minimum of three years news anchor and reporting experience.  Send a link to on-line samples of your work, or a non-returnable DVD and resume for consideration.

ASSIGNMENT EDITOR

This individual will be responsible for assignment desk news coverage, especially breaking news.  The Assignment Editor will be a dynamic and energetic person who can help manage the news gathering process from the Assignment Desk. The person should break news stories, develop sources and communicate clearly.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: monitoring scanners, answering newsroom phones, making calls to people involved in news stories, dispatching field crews, and assisting other newsroom staff.  The assignment editor is required to write and post breaking news stories to the newsroom website, KIROTV.COM.  The assignment editor must work well with other managers in achieving newsroom goals. Qualified applicants must demonstrate leadership. Other requirements include the ability to multi-task, strong computer skills, good news judgment, and ability to clearly communicate.  Experience on major market assignment desk and some college is preferred.  Knowledge of the Puget Sound region’s geography, politics and history is a definite plus.

DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC AFFAIRS AND SPECIAL PROJECTS

KIRO-TV is looking for a Director of Public Affairs and Special Projects in the Creative Services Department.  Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Project Planning and Management
• Sales promotion creative and support
• Station initiative promotion creation and support
• Schedule and coordinate talent appearances and speaking engagements
• Writing station press releases
• Writing talent bios
• Necessary ascertainment and public file maintenance
• Certain public relations requirements and to serve as a liaison between KIRO and community groups
• A substantial stakeholder in KIRO 7 Cares
• To inform the Creative Services Director and other department heads of community relations opportunities
• Cultivate new community partnerships
• Coordinate PSA scripts and production with talent and production
• Maintain current community information on KIROTV.COM
• To facilitate and, when required, respond to requests for station responses or statements
• Coordinate or facilitate station tours
• Must be able to have flexible hours during the week (and weekends) when station is involved in community events.
• Work closely with the Creative Services Director to know priorities for our on-air inventory, and work with traffic departments on all contract schedules.
• Manage station promo inventory by scheduling all spots on the log daily for news and community service promotion.  Assure we are achieving goals in both areas.
• Special projects as assigned
• Frequent and ongoing travel in the region is required
• Required to maintain valid driver’s license

Qualifications:  BA in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications or related field.  Excellent communication, organization, and writing skills are required.  The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of experience organizing and managing special events and projects for TV and/or Radio stations.  This person will have a proven track record developing a working rapport with a diverse group of company leadership.

CLIENT SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE - SALES

KIRO-TV is looking for a Client Service Representative (CSR) who will be responsible for assisting the Local Account Executives. This will include but is not limited to: contract order entry, recapping campaigns through pre and post logs and posts, providing duplicate invoices, monitoring adjacencies on a weekly basis, filling dub requests, pulling clips from Volicon, compiling weekly budget reports, and setting up new advertisers in the contracting system. In addition, the CSR will compile qualitative and quantitative data through the use of Kantar and Marshall Marketing. The CSR will also be responsible for backing up the National Sales Assistant, Program Coordinator, and Executive Assistant when they are out of the office.

MASTER CONTROL OPERATOR – PART-TIME

This position requires expert knowledge of the overall television stations from an operational standpoint. Responsibilities include the programming and operation of the following: the M/C automation system, FCC program logs and transmitter logging equipment, video switchers, audio mixers, various tape formats, camera control systems, broadcast computer networks, video router control, program and commercial prep stations, and basic IT understanding. Requires the ability to communicate well with the CBS and RTV Television Networks as needed, as well as with the Traffic, News, Promotion and Sales departments. All applicants need to be aware of their role in notifying the Engineering Department of all intermittent problems as well as complete equipment failures which require repair and especially any issues that are likely to affect KIRO’s on-air product.
Qualified applicant will have a minimum of 2 years experience in a commercial TV environment and a college degree. Must have the ability to lift 50 plus pounds, work in confined areas and have the willingness to work all shifts including holidays, as needed. Must have the ability to work well both independently as well as in a team environment.

SENIOR WRITER/PRODUCER (Creative Services Department)

Responsibilities (include but not limited to):

• Develop researched based concepts for station news brand campaigns
• Write and Produce station News Promotion Campaigns, including Image, Special Reports and Proof of Performance (POPs)
• Step in when needed and write/produce  teases for daily news topicals.
• Develop other Writer/Producers in the department in graphic design and production into their projects.
• Work closely with Creative Services Director and Promotion Manager, on the brand message execution that is consistent across all media platforms.
• Part of the creative team responsible for writing and producing PSA’s, station sponsored events, sales promotions, and syndicated promotion.
• Take ownership of all Social Media Promotion during all sweeps periods with direction from the Creative Services Director.
• Will assist Client Services in the writing/producing of commercials, and other sales projects when necessary.
• Must produce compelling, targeted, and research driven brand image promotion at all times.
• Embrace the use of process language, and sell brand distinction in Image, Special Report and Topical Promotion.
• Integral part of a collaborative team, including the Creative Services Director, Promotion Manager, and Design Director, to develop and execute the overall graphic design of the news brand.
• Maintain current community information on KIROTV.COM
• Must be able to have flexible hours to meet high volume demands in and out of sweep periods.

 Qualifications:

• BA in Journalism, Production, Marketing or Broadcast related field.
• Excellent communication, organization, and writing skills are required.
• The successful candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of experience working in Creative Services at a television station.
• Must have hands on experience promoting a local news product. Must be creative in writing, shooting (field cameras), editing (non-linear-Avid  Newscutters and/or IMACS).
• Must have experience in graphic design, as it relates to producing compelling/eye-catching promos maximizing graphic elements in the production.
• Knowledge of how Advanced  After Affects, Photoshop, Cinema 4D, and Illustrator can be used in the graphic production of promos.
• Experience using INews/ ENPS and DekoCast.
• Must be able to show writing, producing and design experience in all media platforms to promote the television station.
• Previous supervisory experience in directing workflow, motivating and training staff preferred.

Required to maintain valid driver’s license.

MAINTENANCE ENGINEER

This position requires expert knowledge of the overall television station from a technical standpoint.  Responsibilities include the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of the following:  newsroom automation systems, NLE editing systems, graphics systems, master control automation, video switchers, video routers, various tape recorder formats, ENG camera repair, high and low power transmitters, cameral control system, camera robotics, audio mixers, broadcast computer networks, Cisco LAN switches, and a good IT networking understanding.  This position requires a thorough understanding of digital and analog systems within a television station and industry standards.  Applicants must have experience in the set-up and networking of computers and a solid understanding of computer OS applications, FTP applications and digital video formats.  Qualified applicant will have a minimum of 3 years of experience in TV engineering which must include a strong IT background, a college degree with an emphasis in Broadcast or IT, and a valid Washington State driver’s license.  Experience in a top 30 market is preferred.  You must have the ability to lift 50 plus pounds, work in confined areas and have the willingness to work all shifts including holidays, as needed.  Must work well independently as well as in a team environment. 

REPORTER

KIRO-TV seeks an experienced, enterprising and energetic hard-news reporter. This seasoned journalist will join a newsroom that emphasizes breaking news, daily investigative reporting and severe weather coverage. We’re looking for a reporter who has ideas, digs for extra information, writes well, loves “live” and expects to win. The reporter should also be hungry to use new technology to present stories and the journalist should be adept at using social media to gather and break stories.
