1 Dead, 3 Surrender After Officer-Involved Shooting

MOUNTLAKE TERRACE, Wash. —

One person is dead and three others surrendered after a police-involved shooting and standoff in Mountlake Terrace early Wednesday morning.

A neighbor called 911 at about 1 a.m. to report that gunshots were heard from a home in the 23700 block of 48th Avenue West. A Mountlake Terrace officer on routine patrol also reported hearing gunshots in that area.

Once officers determined which home the shots came from, one officer saw a man with a firearm leaning out of a window at the house, said Rebecca Hover, spokeswoman for the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.

The officer fired his weapon once at the man, Hover said.

Investigators said that they found one man dead inside the home and that a firearm was lying next to him. Police cannot yet confirm if they fired the fatal shot.

Three people also in the home were not injured and surrender to police without incident.

Several families were evacuated until the situation was resolved; they were able to return to their homes shortly before 6 a.m.

The Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the manner of death and police continue to investigate the details surrounding this shooting.

The officer involved in the shooting is on paid administrative leave during the investigation.
